7 Ideas for Creating Great Holiday Outfits

Dec 20, 2023

Given that we have so much to do during the holidays, who wants to stress about what to wear? Here are some simple tips on creating party outfits that are chic and unique.

  1. Add some Red. Try a red sweater, purse, scarf or shoe with a neutral trouser and white ruffled blouse. Or mix some red in with a neutral dress. Add a red lipstick and you are good to go. Nothing says “holiday cheer” like a splash of red. Caution: make sure you select the best red for your complexion. If red is not your color, try a rich shade of plum or green.
  2. Tis the season to shine. Dust off the rhinestone and sequin tops hidden away in your closet. Find those jeans that are embellished. Pull out your dazzling shoes. Add some shine to your eyeshadow, lips, and skin. Just don’t do it all at once. A little shine goes a long way.
  3. Mix up textures and add interest to your outfit with velvet, silk, lace, and ruffles. I own a black velvet suit that I reinvent every year. I have worn it as a suit with a silk camisole for more formal parties. I have also worn the jacket with a sequin tank and jeans for a more casual affair. Try some ruffles with a leather jacket or a lace blouse with denim.
  4. Wear one fantastic (not necessarily expensive) piece of jewelry. You will be party-ready with a black pair of pants, black sweater and a statement necklace, earrings, or cocktail ring. Dig around in your jewelry box or stop by a local vintage store for some colorful and sparkly pieces.
  5. Have a great holiday dress ready. My eye is always open for the “perfect” dress. Somehow, they never present themselves when needed so when you see one, purchase it. The perfect party dress is one that can be recreated in many ways over many years. Classic yet festive.
  6. These boots are made for walking…but not very far. Trade in your flats for higher heel boot or sexy pump. Patent leather or suede always works for a holiday party. A fabulous shoe is an easy way to update any outfit.
  7. Try a new holiday hair style. Add some curls or blow dry straight. Try a great updo or a sleek low ponytail. Just try something a little different for a special look

Most importantly, have fun and celebrate the blessings of the season.
