Are you in the pink?

f word to live by fashion gender-specific in the pink Jun 16, 2022

How does pink make you feel? Does it make you feel joy? Does it give off a creative and artistic vibe? Some feel vibrant, flirty, and romantic.

Happy National Pink Day! Pink reminds me of Barbie, tenderness, breast cancer awareness, being feminine and sweet. It is a symbol of grace, femininity, and sensitivity.

Pink is associated with those notorious gals like Marilyn Monroe, Barbie and Elle Woods and iconized in movies like Mean Girls - "On Wednesdays we wear pink." But actually, it was the baby boomers in the 1940’s who first dressed children in gender-specific clothing. Pink became the color for girls and blue the color for boys. This was actually a switch from the trend in the early 1900's when a trade publication released the claim that the “generally accepted rule is pink for boys and blue for girls.” The reason is that pink, being a stronger color is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl.

Do you wear pink? Pink has a tint of red in it, so you would assume it is a warm color. However, you can also get cool pinks.

What can you do to celebrate National Pink Day?

  1. Pink is a pretty color – period. Wear something pink. You could be head to toe pink or accessorize with pink. You could wear pink lipstick or carry a pink handbag. Try pink nails or a pink tint in your hair.
  2. Make a donation to Breast Cancer Awareness or another favorite cause.
  3. Send someone pink carnations or a special note card. Maybe share a glass of rose’ with a friend.

Some “Pink” facts:
