Being Green is the new Red, White and Blue

I don’t know of a single woman who hasn’t made bad clothing choices. Do you have clothing in your closet with tags still on it? Do you have clothing in your closet you have never worn? Studies have shown that women wear 20% of their clothing 80% of the time. Would you agree?

Since Covid, priorities are changing. Consumers are buying more mindfully. It’s time to start new and fresh with your closet.

Do you remember the days when we didn’t have expiration dates on our food? It’s okay if you don’t, unfortunately I remember. There was a time we had to open a lid and look inside to see how it looked and smell it to see if it was bad. There was no expiration date stamped on it. Now we don’t need to do that. We look for the date and if it is expired, toss it out. Guilt free.

If only we had expiration dates on our clothing. If clothes were like food, it would be easy to throw out those pieces that have passed their expiration date. But no, we have so many hang-ups about letting go of clothes. The worst part about expired clothing is that everyone else can see it faster than you can.
The immense mental energy that it takes to sustain an expired wardrobe can be released into much more productive and pleasurable activities. Give it a try. Do a swoop through your closet and remove those pieces that no longer serve you.

Since a date is not stamped on your clothing you will have to lift the lid and decide for yourself by asking these questions:

  • Have you worn it in the last year?
  • Does it bring you joy?
  • Is there an old life hanging in that closet you need to let go of?
  • Does it fit?
  • Is it flattering?
  • Is it worn out?

Keep it in your closet if:

  • Looks good on you.
  • Fits well.
  • Is in good condition.
  • You LOVE it.

Moving forward, continue to make smart choices. Each of us can make a positive difference for our beautiful earth.
Have a fabulous 4th July celebration next week!
