fall travel fwords to live by fwordstoliveby Sep 10, 2025

This fall I’m taking an amazing trip through Italy – on the back of a motorcycle. Bryan and I typically do a trip like this every other year. Because we are with a group, workouts and healthy options might be few and far between.

Here are my tips for fall travel:

Quick & Simple Travel Workouts

You don’t need a fancy gym to stay active while traveling. Think short, efficient workouts that boost your energy and keep your routine intact:

  • Bodyweight Circuit (10–15 min):
    • 15 squats
    • 10 push-ups (on the floor or wall)
    • 15 lunges (each side)
    • 20-second plank
    • Repeat 3x
  • Hotel Room Cardio Burst:
    • 30 jumping jacks
    • 20 mountain climbers
    • 15 burpees (or modified step-backs because I loathe burpees – lol)
    • Repeat for 10 minutes
  • Walking Tours:
Explore the city on foot, take the stairs instead of the elevator, or sneak in a sunrise walk with your coffee. Movement doesn’t have to be “structured” to count!

Meal Hacks for Staying on Trac

Eating out doesn’t have to mean throwing all your progress away. Here are a few hacks:

  • Prioritize Protein: Look for grilled chicken, fish, lean beef, eggs, or beans at each meal.
  • Balance Your Plate: Fill half with veggies, a quarter with protein, and a quarter with healthy carbs.
  • Pack Smart Snacks: Bring along protein bars, nuts, jerky, or single-serve nut butters for quick energy.
  • Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate: Airplanes, road trips, and even sightseeing can leave you dehydrated. Carry a refillable water bottle and aim for at least 2–3 liters daily.

Mindset: Staying Grounded While You Travel

Travel is about enjoying yourself — not being perfect. Here are a few grounding practices:

  • Morning Routine Lite: Even 5 minutes of journaling, stretching, or deep breathing sets the tone for the day.
  • Don’t Skip Meals: Skipping often leads to overeating later. Keep your blood sugar steady and cortisol calm by eating regularly.
  • Give Yourself Grace: Focus on consistency, not perfection. If you enjoy dessert one night, balance it with protein and veggies the next.

Bottom Line

Travel doesn’t have to derail your health - it can actually enhance it. With a little prep, simple workouts, and mindful eating, you’ll come home feeling energized, not depleted.

So go ahead, sip the cider, explore the trails, and savor the season - your healthy habits can travel with you. 🍂
